| I breed my Teddies for the show bench, never just for sale. The first person I breed for is myself, selfish I know but nevertheless, I am in the Cavy Fancy for the serious business of producing good quality cavies, forever striving to improve, regularly evaluating my resulting progeny and looking to do even better. But for all that, I am in it because it is fun and my cavies welfare is paramount. Hence I do not sell any cavy that has reached over a year old with all retired cavies staying here. I do not inbreed them closely, preferring the risk of not always breeding top quality over the risk of introducing weaknesses in my line through hereditary problems and lack of size. I believe in the old saying 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating' and to be honest, I don't do too badly with my cavies, even if I do regard them all as pets that I happen to breed and show, and not as just livestock. I breed with care and integrity and I show for fun and for improvement! Life is good! |
